TRAMAS INDECIBLES
2025
This work originated from a residency by the group Proyecto de Borde in 2005 at ARTspace Center in Sydney, Australia. In its first version, featuring printed wallpaper, the “Toile de Jouy” textile pattern was proposed as a backdrop for the arrangement of strands of black hair upon it, alluding to the encounter between the European and the conquered in the installation Immolation Pattern.
In this new version of Tramas Indecibles, three rolls of fabric with the same print in different colors are used, covering three vertical panels from ceiling to floor. Each panel is intervened with hair forming distinct patterns: the first features a weave of natural straight hair, knotted and interlaced; the second is composed of braids outlining abstract designs drawn from pre-Columbian iconography; and the third presents a long white braid framing the perimeter of the extended fabric.
